Family history

We have several members of the Society who have extensive and in-depth knowledge of families in the area and are happy to share this knowledge with enquirers seeking to construct their family trees or trace ancestors.

Neolithic Methlick

Gurgedyke compressedA stalwart of the Society for many years and a highly experienced dowser Willie Adie has been exploring the early settlements close to the village of Methlick. His work, which is on- going, has identified an extensive area of habitation, upright and recumbent stones and
many burials. Archaeologists are now working at the site and confirming what has been discovered by the dowsing rods. A map showing the discoveries shows the wealth of activity that took place in Neolithic times.

A historic walk around Methlick

In conjunction with Methlick Community Council the Society has produced a leaflet detailing the historical highlights in Methlick village. It includes a detailed map and several pictures of notable buildings and features in the village as well as helpful guidance notes. Copies of the leaflet for walkers are available in the Ythanview Hotel, French’s shop and in dispensers by the village noticeboards.
